Iran’s Steel Ingot Production Up 10% in 11 Months

Iran’s steel ingot production during a 11- month period (from 20 March 2016 to 18 February 2017) reached 16 million and 831 thousand tonnes which shows an increase of 10 percent as compared to the corresponding period last year (15 million and 319 thousand tonnes).

Approximately 13 million and 137 thousand tonnes of these ingots were produced by privatized sector and 3 million and 694 thousand tonnes were produced by private sector.

Based on the Iran Steel Association report, furthermore, 16 million and 588 thousand tonnes steel products (such as girder, coil, wide sheets, rebar, hot sheet, cold sheet, coated sheet, etc...) were produced during the mentioned period which compared to the same time of the last year registered a 3 percent increase.

This report added that 10 million and 362 thousand tonnes of this figure were produced by privatized sector and 6 million and 226 thousand tonnes were produced by private sector.

During the 11-month period,3 million and 225 thousand tonnes crude steel and one million and 647 thousand tonnes steel products were exported which respectively shows 108 percent increase and 16 percent decrease compared to the corresponding period a year before (one million and 554 thousand tonnes steel ingots and one million and 965 thousand tonnes steel products).

Also, in the said above period, 187 thousand tonnes crude steel and 2 million and 617 thousand tonnes steel products were entered into the country which compared to the same period of the last year (103 thousand tonnes steel ingots and 3 million and 714 thousand tonnes steel products) shows 82 percent rise and 30 percent fall respectively.
