First ro-ro ship docks at Iran’s Noshahr port after 21 years

A giant ro-ro ship which is reportedly carrying a cargo for the United Arab Emirates has docked at the northern Iranian port of Noshahr.

A giant ro-ro ship which is reportedly carrying a cargo for the United Arab Emirates has docked at the northern Iranian port of Noshahr.
The docking of the ship takes place 21 years after a last ro-ro ship named “Mercury 2” docked in Noshahr Port in 2001.

Roll-on/roll-off (RORO or ro-ro) ships are cargo ships designed to carry wheeled cargo, such as cars, trucks, semi-trailer trucks, buses, trailers, and railroad cars, that are driven on and off the ship on their own wheels or using a platform vehicle, such as a self-propelled modular transporter.
One of the main obstacles on the way of Iran’s marine transportation in the Caspian Sea is the lack of ro-ro ships in the Iranian fleet.

The ro-ro ship which docked at Noshahr Port has 66 trucks on board. They were loaded from Russia’s Astrakhan Port and are destined for the United Arab Emirates.
After unloading at Noshahr Port, the trucks will continue their way to south on the road to reach the UAE.
