POSTECH was ranked 8th best university in Asia by Times Higher Education

POSTECH earned excellent evaluations in teaching and research fields. It attained high scores especially in Citations and Industry Income, boasting again of its outstanding capability in research influence and industry-academia collaboration.

Citations are a crucial factor that demonstrates research capability and its influence on the university. The research influence has been evaluated based on the Scopus database, which was made by the world’s biggest publisher Elsevier, by calculating the number of times that a university has had papers published between 2010 and 2014 and is cited over the past 6 years.

Industry Income is an indicator that evaluates universities based on their collaborative activities with industry, revealing contributions of the research to enhancing industry competitiveness.

POSTECH has constantly achieved high evaluations in Research and Industry Income, and has particularly achieved one of the highest scores for Industry Income over the past 6 years. The close collaboration with industry and numerous research activities since its foundation are also drawing the attention of the world.

POSTECH has further advanced and reflected the demands of the industry to introduce an ``industry-academia faculty system`` in April through which professors are invited for research. It is designed to improve competitiveness of both the company and university through conducting research tailored to the needs of the company.

Apart from this, the university is becoming increasingly open to the industry by recruiting engineers or those from corporate research institutes as members of its faculty and reflecting the performance of industry-academia cooperation into the assessment of faculties.

Based on its research performance, POSTECH is ready to make a big leap forward to becoming a “value-creating university,” which contributes to the betterment of society, from a “research-centric university,” through creating jobs and businesses.

On the same day, President Do-yeon Kim gave a speech at the Asia Universities Summit held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, organized by THE for the first time, under the theme of “New universities that lead innovation.”

He proposed ways to innovate through cooperation between industry and academia and the opening of universities.

Meanwhile, Seoul National University and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) occupied 9th and 10th place respectively in this Asia University Rankings. Sungkyunkwan University and Korea University also performed well by ranking 12th and 17th.
