Cameco restarts Cigar Lake uranium mine

me-metals: Cameco (TSX: CCO; NYSE: CCJ) announced Wednesday its Cigar Lake uranium mine in northern Saskatchewan has resumed production activities following a temporary suspension due to challenges at the McClean Lake mill, where Cigar Lake ore is processed.

According to me-metals cited by mining.com, On July 1, Cameco temporarily suspended operations at Cigar Lake, citing disruptions at the McClean Lake mill operated by France’s Orano.

The mill had encountered operational challenges with its sulfuric acid plant that caused it to shut down in order to repair the issue, the uranium miner said at the time.

The McClean Lake mill has now resumed operations, the company said, adding that Cigar Lake has begun shipping stockpiled ore to the mill and has restarted production at the mine.

“Our 2026 production outlook range for Cigar Lake has not been impacted by the temporary suspension of production and remains between 17.5 million and 18.0 million pounds of U3O8 (100% basis),” Cameco said in a press release.
