SAGA Metals begins mobilisation for Wolverine rare earth project

According to me-metals cited by mining-technology.com, SAGA Metals has mobilised crews, equipment and supplies to its Wolverine Heavy Rare Earth Element Project in central Labrador, Canada, ahead of a planned diamond drilling programme.

The mobilisation, which includes the establishment of camp facilities and related infrastructure, forms part of preparations for a 4,000–5,000m drill campaign at the 100% company-owned site.

SAGA Metals intends to build on results from its 2025 reverse circulation drilling operation, which indicated broad zones of near-surface rare earth element mineralisation across a 1.7km × 1.2km area within a peralkaline caldera system.

The diamond drilling will focus on generating core samples for geological, structural, mineralogical and metallurgical analysis.

Current efforts at the site include setting up the necessary infrastructure to support camp operations. The programme will focus on four main areas.

These are mapping the mineralised zone in detail to define geological structures; carrying out follow-up drilling along strike and at depth; assessing additional high-priority prospects; and conducting tests on mineralised rock properties as well as geochemical characteristics.

Drilling results to date have returned consistent mineralisation, with intercepts such as 48.8m at 0.77% total rare earth oxides (TREO) from 1.5m in hole WOLRC25-003, and a peak assay of 2.03% TREO during the 2025 programme.

The company reported that heavy rare earth oxides contributed around 24–28% of the TREO value, and surface sampling has identified mineralised zones with grades up to 21.6% TREO.

SAGA Metals CGO and director Michael Garagan said: “Mobilisation is progressing well with the camp and supporting infrastructure in place to commence all parts of the programme in mid-August.

“This programme will allow us to systematically explore the continuity of ore grade; near-surface mineralisation identified by the two previous drilling campaigns create the essential database to advance this project towards a maiden resource.”

The Wolverine Project comprises nine contiguous mineral licences over 294.5km², located around 50km west of Hopedale and 12km from the Labrador coast.

Accessibility is supported by local airstrips, road connections in nearby towns and proximity to tidewater, which may assist with year-round logistics.

Last month, Temas Resources and SAGA Metals completed an independent metallurgical validation programme using the former’s Regenerative Chloride Leach Platform Technology and reported titanium recoveries of up to 90.8%.
