On 8 January 2017, Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani passed away. Recently he was present in IMIS 2016 (11 December 2016) and he expressed in order to simplify foreign investment attraction in mining sector, IMIDRO present its required points to Expediency Discernment Council.

The late Chairman of Expediency Discernment Council expressed the door of Iran mining sector is open for participation of foreign investors. Based on the conducted studies inside and outside of Iran , as having rich and various mines, Iran is among major mining countries around the world but most of these mines are unknown and some explored mines are not active now. Also the most important point is industries required for mines operation. Proper opportunities are available for domestic and foreign companies and foreign governments interested in cooperation with Iran in an area of one million and 600 thousand square kilometers, he added.
