Sangan Double track Railway for Comprehensive Steel Plan

CEO of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, officials of Ports and Maritime Organization and Chairman of the board of IMIDRO in a meeting discussed the importance of mineral transportation specially railway development in Comprehensive Steel Plan.


Karbasian explained that there are ongoing projects for achieving 17.5 million tons concentrate production capacity and 15 million tons iron ore pellets in Sangan mines now. We aim to produce 10 million tons in next year .Transportation of these products to central and southern steel plants requires increase of Sangan railway capacity.


Sangan iron ore mines are located in east of Khorasan Razavi province. Until two years ago Sangan has 800 million tons proven reserves. IMIDRO’s exploration projects led to achievement of 1.2 billion tons proven reserves.


Importance of Railway Development in Sixth Plan


Karbasian added that railway development and solving challenges have a key role in finished cost reduction of steel products so they should be considered in sixth development plan.


He noted that 6 million tons steel capacity in Chabahar Free Zone and 10 million tons new steel capacity in Persian Gulf Mining and Metals Industries Special Zone is considered which main parts of their raw materials will be transported through railway.
