MINING IN BRAZIL

Brazil is a huge country, covering, 8.5 million square kilometers and home to a population of over 200 million people.

It has the 7th largest economy in the world, one of the largest mineral deposits, and is an important producer and exporter of high quality ores. The Mining Industry is one of the leading reasons for Brazil's positive trade balance and the outlook for this activity is rather optimistic in the short term. Gross mineral exports reached US$ 40.5 billion in 2013 and the mineral trade balance was US$ 32 billion.

According to the National Department of Mineral Production (DNPM), there are about 8,000 mining companies operating in Brazil and that mining is the private sector that most invests in the country: about US$ 10.7 billion a year (according to 2014 figures).

This is an extremely important sign that the main global mining companies should realise the excellent business opportunities available to them.
